Increase on every side

Increase on every side

Rhema Christian Church

Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side ~ Psalm 71:21.

Introduction

I am fully persuaded that the Lord desires to accomplish in our lives, this season, that which far surpasses human strength, learning, or skill. He longs to bring us into a realm of enlargement, an experience of increase on every side, where His gracious hand lifts us beyond former limits and familiar patterns.

Within every human heart lies a yearning for more: more fruitfulness, more stability, more peace, and more fulfilment in life, ministry, and destiny. We desire increase in our finances, health, relationships, callingand walk with God.

The Psalmist captured this holy longing when he prayed, “Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side”. This is no casual aspiration; it is the cry of a soul yearning for comprehensive progress, advancement in character, influence, spiritual depth, and an overflow of divine consolation.

Understanding the Biblical Subject of Increase

“Increase” in the Bible means to multiply, enlarge, and become greater. The Greek word “auxanō” denotes organic, God-breathed growth—a rising that proceeds from the divine life within.

Throughout Scripture, increase is portrayed as both spiritual and physical. The Word of God increased, and the number of disciples multiplied (Acts 6:7; 19:20). Believers were commanded to abound more and more in love (1 Thessalonians 3:12; Philippians 1:9). Paul prayed for increasing revelation and understanding (Ephesians 1:17–18). And God promises renewed strength to the weary (Isaiah 40:29–31).

From the dawn of human history, God’s passion for our increase was unmistakable: “Be fruitful, and multiply…” (Genesis 1:28). Increase is therefore not a human invention but a divine ordinance woven into creation and into God’s covenant dealings with His people.

Yet increase is far more than “noise, numbers, and nickels.” The Kingdom of Christ is a growing Kingdom—ever advancing and never retreating. Even when it appears small as a mustard seed, it contains within itself the mysterious power of expansion.

The prophecy stands immutable: “Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end” (Isaiah 9:7). We must therefore remain steadfast in our holy pursuit of kingdom ideals, touching lives for Christ.

God’s Power and God’s Will In Our Increase

All true increase bears the seal of divine grace (1 Corinthians 3:6–7). When God steps into a matter, the insignificant becomes mighty: “A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation” (Isaiah 60:22).

The will of God concerning His people is unmistakable. It carries the insignia of generational increase and ever-abounding blessings (Psalm 115:13–15). This increase is not restricted to biological multiplication; it includes emotional stability, spiritual dominion, intellectual enlargement, wealth creation, relational grace, and every form of godly advancement.

The blessing of Eden has never been revoked—rather, it is reinforced and reinvigorated through the gospel. In Christ we have been redeemed from the curse, and brought in as beneficiaries of the Abrahamic blessing (Galatians 3:13–14). Delays are not denials but divine preparations for a greater unveiling of His purpose.

Increase, however, requires growth in wisdom, knowledge, discernment, faith, and love. As we pursue these graces, God honours us and adds kingdom benefits to our lives according to His promise (Matthew 6:33).

Nevertheless, genuine increase humbles the believer. It delivers us from self-exaltation and redirects our gaze to God—the Source, the Strength, and the Sustainer of all increase.

Walking in the Pathways of Increase

While God is the Ultimate Source of increase, His people have a part to play. Increase is a gift, but it is also a stewardship. Divine enlargement flourishes best in prepared hearts. We position ourselves for “increase on every side” by aligning our lives with His Word and His ways.

Below are key pathways for that spiritual preparation:

(a) Embrace Increase as God’s Will

The first step is inward conviction. Increase is not carnal ambition but covenant reality. God blessed humanity and said, “Be fruitful… multiply… and have dominion”.Blessing implies increase; curse implies decrease. To reject increase is to refuse what grace has freely provided.

(b) Exercise Faith and Obey the Word

A foremost secret of increase is inward alignment with divine truth. Increase is closely tied to how we receive and obey God’s Word (Mark 4:24–25). We must meditate on the Word, guard our hearts, and practice obedience (Joshua 1:8; Hebrews 11:6).

Faith is not wishful thinking; it is recognition of unseen realities. Those who hear the Word and “mix it with faith” bear fruits of superlative increase (Matthew 13:23; Hebrews 4:2). God’s covenant promises are immutable; faith lays hold on them until they manifest (2 Corinthians 1:20).

(c) Speak the Language of Increase

God Himself “calls those things which be not as though they were”(Romans 4:17). Words carry spiritual weight (Mark 11:23). Jesus taught that Spirit-breathed words impart life (John 6:63).

The believer’s life expands under the influence of faith-filled words. Confession is not magic; it is alignment with God’s eternal truth. So when finances diminish, speak God’s supply. When the body weakens, speak healing. When fear whispers, speak faith.

(d) Walk in Righteousness and Integrity

All lasting increase rests upon a spiritual foundation. The heart is the habitation of divine power, and a righteous heart creates an atmosphere conducive to blessing.

Righteousness has two dimensions: 1) positional righteousness—received through faith in Christ (Romans 1:16–17), and 2) practical righteousness—expressed through godly conduct (Matthew 6:33).

The purity of our hearts, the integrity in our relationships, the honesty in our dealings, and our general outlooks of gratitude create space for our divine enlargement. As self decreases and Christ increases (John 3:30), the promise of great increase becomes reality (Job 8:7).

(e) Live to Give, Serve, and Build

God blesses us so that we might be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Increase is not for selfish accumulation but for kingdom expansion and service to others. We must therefore serve humbly, give joyfully to God’s work and the needy, win souls, strengthen disciples, and remain planted in a local church, supplying our portion.

As we think right, speak right, live right, give right, and praise right, we position ourselves for supernatural increase: “Keep the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do” (Deuteronomy 29:9).

Conclusion

Friends and brethren, God has ordained supernatural increase for you, but His promises are unlocked through obedience and faithful service (Job 36:11).

As you yield to His Spirit, align with His Word, and allow Christ to increase within you, you will surely experience increase on every side—in wisdom, in character, in influence, in resources, in fruitfulness, and in every dimension of life and godliness.

May the Lord Himself increase you more and more, you and your children, and may He comfort you on every side. May His gracious hand lift you into realms of supernatural enlargement in this season. You will not miss it, in the precious name of Jesus. Amen. Happy Sunday!
