Living in the power of His Resurrection

Living in the power of His Resurrection

Rhema Christian Church

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death ~ Philippians 3:10.

Introduction

He is risen indeed. What love, what triumph, what power!

On Resurrection Sunday, we commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ—an event central to the Christian faith and full of abiding significance for every believer. Yet the resurrection is not merely a doctrine to be celebrated once a year; it is a divine power to be known, embraced, and lived in every day.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the most momentous facts in human history. Remove it, and the whole structure of Christianity collapses (1 Corinthians 15:14).

If Jesus were still in the grave, His death would be no different in effect from that of any other man. His life would only be a noble example, but not our righteousness. His cross would only be a tragedy, but not our redemption. But thanks be to God—Christ is risen indeed (Luke 24:1–8).

The Resurrection Was God’s Eternal Plan Fulfilled

The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus were not afterthoughts in the mind of God. They formed part of His eternal plan of redemption. What Adam lost through disobedience, Christ restored through perfect obedience. Through His finished work, Jesus reclaimed the blessing, recovered dominion, and reopened the way to God’s family.

Scripture presents Christ as “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”(Revelation 13:8). Even in Genesis 3:15, the first prophecy of redemption already pointed to both the suffering and triumph of Christ. The serpent would bruise His heel, but the Seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head. Calvary and the resurrection were thus always part of God’s redemptive agenda.

Jesus Himself repeatedly foretold His resurrection. For example, He declared, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up,”speaking of His body (John 2:19). His resurrection was no accident, no myth, and no symbolic flourish. It was the deliberate fulfillment of the Father’s eternal purpose.

Jesus Was Brutalized and Crucified—But He Arose

Everything the Scriptures said concerning Christ came to pass. He was betrayed, mocked, scourged, crucified, and buried. His enemies even secured the tomb, sealing the stone and setting a guard, hoping to bring the movement of His followers to an irreversible end.

Yet what they intended as final defeat became public confirmation of divine victory. The sealed tomb only magnified the miracle. On Friday, He suffered. On Sunday, He arose. And the whole narrative of human history changed forever.

The resurrection is not merely that Jesus came back to life. It is that He conquered death, shattered hell’s authority, and openly triumphed over the powers of darkness(Colossians 2:15). Satan is not going to be defeated; he has already been defeated.

This means the believer does not fight for victory as though Christ had left something unfinished. We fight from victory, enforcing by faith what Christ has already secured by His death and resurrection.

Understanding the Power of His Resurrection

Paul’s great yearning in Philippians 3:10 was not merely to know about Christ, but to know Him personally and to experience the power of His resurrection. Paul already knew the Lord savingly, yet he longed for a deeper, richer, more practical experience of Christ’s living power.

There is a difference between knowing a truth as doctrine and knowing its force in personal experience. One may know that Christ rose from the dead, and yet not live in the strength, liberty, and boldness that flow from that fact. Paul desired to feel Christ’s resurrection power operating at every point in his life.

This is where many believers fall short. We stop at the cross, rejoice in forgiveness, and yet fail to walk in the daily power of the risen Christ. But resurrection power is not only for Christ’s victory over death—it is for our present transformation and triumph.

Major Ways Resurrection Power Works in the Believer

1. Power to Receive Forgiveness of Sins

Jesus “was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification”(Romans 4:25). His resurrection is God’s public declaration that the sacrifice of Christ was accepted. If anything were lacking in His atonement, He could not have risen. But because He rose, we know that forgiveness is complete and justification is secure.

2. Power to Conquer Sin

Resurrection power not only forgives sin; it breaks its dominion. In Christ we are made new. We are no longer slaves to old habits, lusts, or spiritual defeat. Many Christians continue sinning because they do not fully know the power available to them in Christ. But the risen Lord empowers us to put on the new man and walk in righteousness and holiness.

3. Power to Serve as God’s Agents on Earth

The Christian life is not merely defensive; it is deeply purposeful. God saves us not only to rescue us, but to send us. We are Christ’s ambassadors, ministers of reconciliation, and witnesses to the world. Resurrection power equips weak people to do divine work. As Paul learned, God’s strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

4. Power to Be Conformed to Christ’s Likeness

The ultimate design of redemption is conformity to Christ. We are being transformed into His likeness from glory to glory by the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18). Resurrection power works inwardly to shape our character, renew our desires, and form Christ within us. This is not self-improvement; it is divine transformation.

5. Power to Overcome Satan and His Kingdom

The resurrection publicly sealed Satan’s defeat. Jesus now bears the Name above every name, and all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him. He has given His people authority over the works of darkness. We need not fear the devil when we stand in Christ, know our covenant rights, and live under the rule of the risen Lord.

Living in Resurrection Power Today

How then do we live in this power daily? We live in resurrection power by believing God’s Word, knowing Christ personally, desiring more of Him, depending on divine power rather than self-effort, relying on the Holy Spirit, speaking the Word in faith, refusing doubt, and putting our faith into action.

Resurrection power does not operate meaningfully in a careless, worldly, sinful, unbelieving life. It is activated where there is faith, surrender, holy desire, and obedience. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in the believer and quickens even our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). This means resurrection life is not merely a future hope—it is our present and active reality.

When lack comes, when fear rises, when temptation presses, when the enemy intrudes, the believer must stand in the Name of Jesus, rely on the blood of Christ, speak the Word, and enforce the triumph of the Cross and the empty tomb.

Conclusion

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is not simply an event to be remembered; it is a power to be experienced. Christ is alive, and because He lives, His people may live in victory, holiness, boldness, and divine purpose every day.

The resurrection proves that sin has been paid for, death has been conquered, Satan has been defeated, and eternal life has been secured.

The risen Christ is still the active Head of His Church, the Life-Giver to His people, and the Victor over every opposing power. Therefore, after this Resurrection celebration, do not return to weak, fearful living. Know Him. Walk with Him. Because He lives, you too can live in His power today. Happy Resurrection Sunday.
